Line of research:

Main: Spinal cord trauma; spinal disorders and stem cell research in spinal disorders

Summary

Laboratory coordinator a) Letran – a specialized laboratory for experimental research in the area of nerve repair and reconstruction; b) Cenatra – Center of Reference for the Integrated Specialized Care of Spinal Cord Trauma.

  1. a) At Letran international standards for the standardization and validation of spinal cord contusions are used. The laboratory has a computerized drop weight impact tester (New York Impactor), developed by New York University, USA, and adopted by the Multicenter Animal Spinal Cord Injury Study – MASCIS, coordinated by Prof. Wise Young of Rutgers University, for standardized use and validation of spinal cord contusions in Wistar rats.

It develops new therapeutic techniques using stem cells, growth factors and tissue engineering. It is one of Cenatra’s main advanced research facilities.

  1. b) Cenatra – Center of Reference for the Integrated Specialized Care of Spinal Cord Trauma. Line of work: Nuclear, multicenter, interinstitutional, multidisciplinary and multiprofessional program for tertiary and quaternary medical and paramedical assistance for patients suffering from spinal cord trauma.

Both laboratories have the capacity to receive undergraduate and graduate students, residents and national and international researchers for the development of research protocols for several spinal disorders.
