Line of Research

Studies related to Sports Medicine, with emphasis on tissue engineering, cell therapy and orthobiologics

Summary

The current line of research covers the main pathologies related to Sports Medicine, including studies of basic science, translation and clinical application. Our group develops preclinical studies in large animals and phase I/II “first in human” clinical trials for the evaluation of articular cartilage treatment with tissue engineering and cell therapy with mesenchymal cells. In addition, our group has researches and publications regarding the reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament in athletes and performance assessment of athletes using new technologies such as thermography and exergy assessment. Collaboration between several national and international institutions is a strength of our group. It allows us to advance in the area of knowledge about Sports Medicine, innovating and developing national technology. We aim to transform knowledge into practical application for the patient and athlete.
