Line of Research

Autoimmune Rheumatological Diseases, with emphasis on Systemic Erythematosus Lupus, Autoantibodies in Autoimmune Diseases and Biologic Therapy in Autoimmune Rheumatological Diseases.

Summary

The main lines of research are the clinical, laboratorial and immunological aspects of autoimmune rheumatological diseases, especially systemic erythematosus lupus. I have made relevant contributions to the field of autoantibodies, with special focus on the description and characterization of antiribosomal P antibodies and their association with the psychiatric manifestations of lupus. Also of note is the first identification of the arrhythmogenic potential of Ro/SSA antibodies purified in vitro. Recently, we initiated studies on immunogenicity and the safety of vaccines in autoimmune diseases, which resulted in several publications. Currently, I am studying and evaluating biologic therapy in autoimmune rheumatological diseases and have published several articles on this topic.
