Applied Physiology and Nutrition

Summary

The mission of the Applied Physiology & Nutrition Group is to conduct comprehensive and transdisciplinary studies of clinical or experimental nature, aimed at unraveling the role of physical activity and nutrition in sports, in aging, in obesity and in chronic diseases. The research laboratories occupied by the group are located at the Medical School (LIM-17), at the Hospital das Clínicas (Rheumatology Evaluation and Conditioning Laboratory) and at the USP School of Physical Education and Sports. Together, these laboratories offer ample possibilities for testing and physiological assessment of patients and athletes, as well as for prescribing exercise programs. We perform molecular analyses of gene and protein expression, enzymatic assays, high performance liquid chromatography, histology and cytology. The group has more than 75 members, including undergraduate (SI) and graduate students (master’s and doctoral candidates), post-doctoral students and foreign professors, and it also actively collaborates with several national and international researchers.
